Kyoto Love Hotel are an electronic art- pop duo made up of Laura Sheary and Joe Geaney. The pair grew up in the same town in Tipperary but nowadays they share music, sounds and words with one another from their respective homes in Cork and Belfast.
The literal space that these ideas traverse acts as a sort of framework for the work they want to produce: expansive, atmospheric songs that document the constant back and forth between inner world and exterior landscape. This is music that melds introspective, reflective lyrics with alternative-pop sensibilities.
Their debut EP Grow was released in December 2020, with Nialler9 describing it as: a collection of songs that moves from ‘glacial to intimate to ambient to pop headiness’. They’re currently working on a new collection of tracks set for release later this year.
When do you think it begins? will be a live experience combining elements of spoken word, visuals, soundscape and song. Having spent lockdown apart, this will be the band’s first time performing live together since the release of last year’s Grow EP. This is a chance to hear those songs along with brand new material, still in exciting, experimental stages.
