The first ever Belfast Potter’s Market coming to Writer’s Square, opposite St Anne's Cathedral Saturday 14th August 2021 10am-6pm.
The new market is being organized for local potters by Mud Ireland in collaboration with Craft NI and Belfast City Council as part of August Craft Month.
Northern Ireland has a thriving Arts and Craft’s industry, the talent and variety within our wee country is really something to behold! At the market there will be 20 local potters and sculptors each day exhibiting and selling their beautiful work! The event is taking place in the heart of Belfast’s Cathedral quarter, the area is well renowned for its creativity and vibrancy!
The market is the brain-child of local potter Joshua Lyness, who trained in Belfast School of Art and Ballydougan Pottery, before going on to establish his own business Mud Ireland. Josh has been making pottery and teaching classes in Northern Ireland now for the last 5 years. In his words “The idea for the Belfast market first came when I exhibited at Galway Potter’s Market in 2020, which was supported in huge numbers by locals and tourists alike! We had an amazing weekend of sales and the best time making friends and networking with other Irish Potters. The Covid-19 pandemic has accentuated the need for a similar event in Northern Ireland, We have all been quietly making away in our studios, now it’s time to get out and sell some of them! The Craft industry has been badly hit by the pandemic and I hope this event can go a little way to aiding it’s recovery.”
Alongside Mud Ireland’s beautifully handcrafted porcelain, 20 other potters will be exhibiting their work including slip cast sculptures by Red Earth Designs, Helen Faulkner Ceramics Toulouse Collection and many more. The Variety and quality at the outdoor market promises to be straight out of the top drawer! So it will be well worth a visit…
In addition to Belfast Potter’s Market, Craft NI’s August craft month will feature a packed schedule of creative events, exhibitions and workshops including; The Summer Showcase and Castle Ward, Art on the Rails Bangor, An open studio at Benefield Spencer Glass and loads more!
