As we are all starting to feel the effects of screen-fatigue after a long two years and counting, it’s important to take a step back and enjoy what’s around you.

Look no further, as we’ve compiled a range of events hosted by Belfast Central Library.

Belfast Central Library can be found situated in Cathedral Quarter on Royal Avenue, open Monday to Saturday from 9 am. 

The building itself is enriched in history having opened in 1888 and surviving undamaged through both World War II and the Troubles. 

The library offers a lending library, computer suite, study rooms, a business department and a heritage and music department.

If you want something new to try or would just like to spend some time away from the computer screen, there are a range of free events available which are a great opportunity to meet new people and relax. The library also has an on-site coffee shop.  

Knit and Natter

Every Tuesday 10.30am-11.30am

Knit and Natter is a free group for adults that takes place every Tuesday with tea and coffee provided. It is for people who have an interest in knitting, crochet, cross-stitch and crafting and members can bring a project in progress or start something new.

Classical Music Club

First Wednesday of every month 11am-12pm

Classical Music club takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 11am-12pm with refreshments available.

Rhythm & Rhyme 

Every Friday 11:00-11:30

Rhythm & Rhyme is a free group for parents and children aged 0-4. Each session explores rhymes, songs and stories, creating the opportunity for children to interact with others and develop their reading, listening and language skills. 

Mindful Colouring 

Every Thursday 10:30am-12:00pm

Booking is not required

Colouring isn’t just for kids. Belfast Central Library provides mindful colouring sessions for adults. Mindful colouring has been proven to reduce anxiety and stress, improve focus and sleep.  

Clinical psychologist Scott M. Bea said:

“Adult colouring requires modest attention focused outside of self-awareness,” Dr. Bea says. “It’s a simple activity that takes us outside ourselves in the same way, cutting the lawn, knitting or taking a Sunday drive can all be relaxing.”
