24th May 2022 in Nightlife

The Wombats will headline The Telegraph Building on Sunday 21st August.

The Indie Rock band, who are signed to 14th Floor Records and Bright Antenna, have sold over 1 million albums worldwide and now, with the release of their new album, are set to do a new set of UK and Ireland tour dates for August and October.

Since being created in 2003 when the band members became friends at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, the band has grown profusely with 5 studio albums, 9 extended plays and 29 singles.

The band consists of Matthew Murphy on vocals, bass player Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis on drums.

The Wombats will play songs off their latest album released in January this year called ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’ which was recorded during lockdown when the members were in separate locations. Their song ‘If you ever leave I’m coming with you’ explores feeling locked inside and struggling with relationships amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lead singer, Matthew commented on the process of making the album during the lockdown and talking over zoom, he said;

“I noticed that 2020 and 2021 put some serious strain on interpersonal relationships, it felt like people around me were really struggling. For me, ‘If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You’ taps into all of that and asks the question…is it the circumstances putting undue stress on people? Or have the circumstances shed light on people’s incompatibility with one another?”

The Wombats have also worked with Be-Games to produce a free mobile racing game inspired by the track This Car Drives All By Itself’. The Wombats: Official Game is available on Android and iOS and allows fans to immerse themselves in the music video as characters Murph, Tord and Dan with the goal of making it to the show on time without crashing.

The band’s manager Simon Bobbett added, “It was a pleasure working with Be-Hookd on the band’s first venture into ‘gaming’, one of many new initiatives the band have explored in this current climate, having recently launched a successful NFT / Metaverse experience via Sandbox. We are really excited about how it turned out.
