26th May 2022 in Arts

Tickets have now been released for the opening weekend – 29th-31st July – of Ron Mueck’s all-Ireland debut exhibition at The MAC.

Australian-born Mueck began his career in film and television before a 1996 collaboration with Paula Rego inspired his move into fine art. With the release of his ‘Dead Dad’ sculpture a year later, Mueck has continued to establish himself as one of the most important artists of his generation.

The exhibition is set to bring together 7 pieces of key work, including ‘Dead Dad, 1997’ and ‘In Bed, 2005’. With all 7 sculptures varying in size, the carefully crafted displays are seen as psychological reflections of the human condition.

Known for the immediate emotional response elicited by his works, Mueck utilises pose, gesture, facial expression, scale and realism to inspire inner reflection amongst viewers of his art; capturing intimate and private emotions with an unsettling power and ability.

Free of charge, but with suggested donations, booking ahead of time is advised to aid in number control and crowd management.
