20th Jun 2019 in Arts

The weather may belie it but… as of this weekend, summer is here in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter!

Whether the rain pours or the sun shines, the Cathedral Quarter Belfast is red hot with events to entertain everyone, from Edinburgh Fringe Comedy previews to art exhibition launches to beer tasting.

Here’s our top five, but you can see everything on in CQ Belfast this week by thumbing through our CQ Belfast Events Guide – food and drink, nightlife, arts and culture, business and more – whatever you’re interested in doing in Belfast – you’ll find it here.

Throw on your shades and get in here, the water’s fine (and the beer’s even better)!

Blind Metrics – Find the heartbeat of your startup

Monday 17th June, 4pm @ Raise

Struggling with pricing? Maybe your business model just doesn’t make sense yet? How many people can you afford to hire? In the dark on margins? WTF are COGS and do they even matter? How many leads do you need to generate to hit your conversion targets and how much can you spend doing that? Can your startup ever actually create a highly profitable business?

The answer to all of these questions and more lie in your unit economics which are the blip on the heart monitor of your startup. At this workshop we’ll dig in hard on how to surface the metrics that matter.

This workshop is for SaaS businesses / businesses with a recurring revenue model.

Bring along your current business metrics (or what you think they might be if you’re pre-revenue) on an A4 printed sheet, no business names or identifying marks please and we’ll work through them as a group. No red faces as they’ll be anonymous and you’ll get to hear real unbiased feedback and insights on your business!

Martin Neill is a serial entrepreneur with over 25 years served in software, journalism, the music business and more – including ten years at AirPOS, building a lean and mean SaaS machine and a worldwide network of investors and mentors that spans from the USA to Australia.

Refreshments included.

Paul Currie: Trufficle Musk (work-in-progress)

Tuesday 18th June, 8pm @ The Black Box

GENDERS & NON GENDERS come smell the prevailing winds of HUMAN toxicity in the air and plunge your human meat gloves into the zeitgeist pavlova and gently take each other by the frontal cortex as we ascend into the sparkling mind satchel of comedian Paul Victor Currie.

This is an early stages work in progress of his new hour long show TRUFFICLE MUSK that will be going to Edinburgh Fringe 2019. TRUFFICLE MUSK is his 6th hour long Show and the follow up to last years hit HOT DONKEY which won Paul the BEST SHOW comedians choice award at the Edinburgh Fringe.

This new show will see Currie get even more personal than in any previous show. He’ll delve into his personal experience of 40 years of being bullied, his ongoing struggle with anxiety & mental health and his love of glove, interpretive dance and ice therapy.

Expect truth bombs galore but also life-affirming fun in equal measure.

Think Monty Python meets Samuel Becket in a cheap hotel bed on a cocktail of Buckfast and Rum and you’re not even close.

The Five Points Brewing Company is an independent brewery based in Hackney, London, brewing with a commitment to quality and the community since 2013.

They champion flavour, provenance, consistency and quality, and their range of award-winning beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised for a better flavour and aroma. Their beers are inspired by the founders’ passion for both the British real ale tradition and the best of the international craft beer movement.

We are delighted to have them join us for our inaugural Beer Club here at Ulster Sports Club.

Keeping things very informal, this will be a chance to meet with the brewery and chat away about their beers, have a few samples and even win some sweet Five Points merch!
